Standard knee protectors

Standard that describes the properties of knee protectors.

Type 1:

Knee protectors that are independent of other types of clothing and are attached around the lower leg.

Type 2:

Foam plastic or other padded textile that is attached to knee pockets on trousers or that is permanently attached to the trousers.

Type 3:

Knee pads that are not attached to the body, but are moved when the user moves around.

Type 4:

Knee protectors for one knee or both knees, which are part of units with additional functions, such as a frame that makes it easier to stand upright, or a seat to kneel on.

Performance level

There are three different performance levels.

Level 0

Knee pads only suitable for use on flat floor surfaces. No protection against penetration.

Level 1

Knee pads only suitable for use on flat floor surfaces. No protection against penetration.

Level 2

Knee pads suitable for use on flat or non-flat floor surfaces. Protects against penetration with a force of at least 100 ± 5 N.

User information

The use of knee pads does not guarantee full protection against injury. It is not recommended to kneel on knee pads for more than an hour at a time. If knees or calves swell during kneeling work, a doctor should be consulted.
