A unique research and development project
The research project, called Lightfoot, originally focused on reducing weight and minimizing environmental impact. The result was Wenaas ID – developed with the integrated comfort system InLet.To identify the best solutions, the project was carried out in collaboration with SINTEF, Europe’s largest manufacturer of protective footwear, Orion, as well as industry partners such as Aker BP, Equinor, and OneCo, with support from the Research Council of Norway.Over four years, and with a total investment of more than NOK 10 million, extensive analyses, laboratory testing, and user trials under real working conditions were conducted – both offshore and onshore.

User research + science = Wenaas ID

SINTEF (one of Europe’s largest independent research institutes) conducted in-depth user studies to identify the main challenges associated with prolonged use of safety footwear. Concepts and prototypes were tested both in laboratories and in the field. The result is a research-based product developed with real user insight – and a safety shoe that sets a new standard for comfort, functionality, and sustainability.
